Quilted Maple or Big leaf Maple is well-known for its unique grain pattern and attractive look. Big leaf Maple has the largest leaves among the Maple species. Quilted Maple is the commercial hardwood in the United States, west coast region. The wood is lighter and softer than Hard Maple tonewoods. It’s best suited in the making of carved tops.

The wood is fairly easy to work with hand and machines. It has a tendency to burn when being machined with high-speed cutters, but the wood glues and finishes well. The overall texture and lightness makes it an attractive carved guitar top. It’s prized for its beauty, quilted grain patterns are expensive.
