Origin : Western North America.
Density : 350-410 Kg/M3 Engelmann Spruce is used in high end guitars though it is a softer wood withconsistent coloring and tight grain patterns . Generally Sitka variety has a creamy yellowish color, while Engelmann has better sound. Engelmann has mature tone, and yields richer midrange than sitka which makes a guitar sound a bid older.
My friends latest guitar, a classical guitar made by a excellent luthier here in St Louis, has an Engelmann Spruce top, which I find quite neat since it’s warmer than Sitka, but still sounds crisp enough for what I want in my guitar. That luthier, uses Engelmann quite often for his guitars.
ANY species of spruce crafted by the “right hands” can sound spectacular including Engelmann is simply fantastic..
